Desperate Crossing: The Untold Story of the Mayflower

It’s a story familiar to most of us from school. And in many ways, the story of the passengers on the Mayflower is like that of every immigrant who has come to America to start a new life. Yet the true story of the Pilgrims is far more complex than the one most of us learned as children — and also more intriguing. This is a decades-long epic tale, filled with real drama, tragedy, and inspiration, revealed in the three-hour special DESPERATE CROSSING: THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE MAYFLOWER, a World Premiere on The History Channel on Sunday, November 19 at 8pm ET/PT.

First off, it is a fallacy to call the Indians Native Americans. America did not exist at the time, nor did the idea of America exist. Also, the Indians weren’t these peaceful loving people in tune with nature that never harmed a fly.

The Indians didn’t help the Pilgrims until about a year after the mayflower landed. Even then Squanto, who was familiar with Europeans, had to do a lot of convincing before his tribe decided to help.

They were not the world’s greatest murderers. Quit believing politically correct bs.

Loss of the national volksgeist and worship of Mammon affected our schools and from there…U.S.A. is the only nation on Earth without a sense of history. Europeans laugh at ya’ll!!

The sadness that one feels on Thanksgiving is this: Most of my fellow Americans know nothing-ZERO-about the Plymouth Colony or much else about their history. When did our schools lose the ability to even give students the basics of our nation’s heritage?

We only know sports and Hollywood celebrities, and The Mayflower and all else in our heritage–might as well be an ancient language–so sad.

These people wanted a new life, and they had the desire, passion, love and guts to do it.
Their belief in God and each other was so strong that nothing could stop them.
These Pilgrims are heroes, and a great many people today would not be here if it were not for these founders.
By the way, most people today complain about stupid things and would not last a week if they went back almost 400 years.
Our fathers would walk all over us in any time.
    I am,

    George Vreeland Hill

My ancestors WERE NOT LOSERS! They were brave men, women and children.I am VERY PROUD that I am a direct descendant of Gov. William Bradford, John Alden and other passengers on The Mayflower.

The first poster needs to lighten up. I wonder after his difficult posting he had to rest up with a bag of doritos. It must have been so stressful. Perhaps he can relax by making fun of some sad people at a funeral or something.

  16. LordCerneAbbas says:

So why did those Pilgrim losers need the Mayflower then? Why did they rely on British technology, engineering, and sailing skills, instead of just following their “saviour’s” example and walking across the Atlantic? And why were they so scared, if their “saviour” was with them? Pilgrims are always scared of something, which shows their complete lack of faith in any deity. What a bunch of LOSERS!
